Senior Tutor in Clinical Communication Skills

Mandy is a Senior Tutor in Clinical Communication Skills, Cambridge University Hospitals Trust, and Independent Coach/Trainer

She has over 20 years’ experience working as a senior nurse in specialist palliative care and over 15 years’ experience as a facilitator/trainer in clinical communication skills with both undergraduate and post graduate health professionals. 

Mandy worked for 6 years as a Macmillan clinical nurse specialist providing specialist palliative care both in hospital and the community. She was a ward manager at St Christopher’s hospice, Sydenham for 4 years before becoming patient services manager and matron at Arthur Rank Hospice, Cambridge for 10 years. She has a BSc in Health Services Management and an MSc in palliative care.

Mandy has been a facilitator on the national multidisciplinary advanced communication skills (Connected) programme since 2005. Since 2009 she has been a senior tutor in clinical communication skills at Cambridge University Hospitals Trust, working with undergraduate medical students. She has specific responsibility for faculty development and student remediation and for the development of sessional materials including breaking bad news and conversations at the end of life. She has facilitated on national and international train the trainers’ courses both in the UK and abroad and has presented papers and workshops at UK and international conferences.

Mandy also works as an independent coach/trainer. Since 2018 she has provided workshops and one to one communication skills training for international medical graduates registered with Health Education England. Additionally, she provides one to one remediation support for post graduate medical trainees on specialist training programmes.
