Dr Wala Salman

ST5, General Adult Psychiatry

Wala Salman is an ST5 in General Adult Psychiatry, West London NHS Trust. She completed her core psychiatry training with South West London and St George’s (SWLSTG) NHS Trust.

Wala is an international medical graduate from Sudan. During her time in medical school, she worked with the Medical Students’ International Network – Sudan (MedSIN-Sudan), under the umbrella of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA). IFMSA is the official representative for medical students all over the world, representing about 1.3 million medical students from more than 100 countries, working directly with the WHO and the United Nations. As part of this, she assumed different local and national positions, including the National Project Support Division Director, the National Training Support Division Director and Head of the Project Proposals Review Committee.

Wala has a keen interest in public health and health inequalities. In 2017, she completed a master’s degree in Global Health and Public Policy from the University of Edinburgh. During the course of this programme, she was awarded the Edinburgh Award for Professionalism in Public Engagement. Following this, she engaged in different projects in this area.

She is involved with different leadership activities. She was chosen to join the competitive Women Leadership Exchange Program in the USA, a 40-day educational program sponsored by the Study of the US Institute. Currently, she is an RCPsych Leadership and Management Fellow.
