Dr Sarah Thomas

Principal Clinical Psychologist

Dr Sarah Thomas is a Principal Clinical Psychologist with a specialist interest in older people’s mental health. She works for Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, based at Northampton General Hospital.

She gained her degree from Royal Holloway, University of London, before completing a master’s at Coventry University and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leicester in 2017.  She has gained experience applying her clinical skills in a number of areas, including children and adolescents, medical psychology, adult mental health, learning disabilities and older people’s mental health. Sarah specialises in older people’s mental
health and dementia. She has an interest in age discrimination within health services and has worked hard to improve equal access to mental health services for those over 65. She also has an interest in the diagnosis of ‘Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder’ (EUPD). She has been involved in the development of treatment pathways for people with difficulties associated with EUPD.

Sarah is eager to invest in budding psychologists and is keen to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for issues affecting older people. She regularly supervises trainees on placement, offers mentoring to trainees and facilitates a reflective practice group for trainee clinical psychologists. Sarah offered to teach as a guest lecturer at Coventry University and the University of Leicester.
